Shaban was a JMU Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete last season as a freshman. He finished his JMU debut season hitting .250 in 19 games.
Shaban collected his first JMU hit against Alcorn State, and added his first RBI and run scored against UNF. He had his first career multiple-hit game with a two-run single and a sac fly at Radford. Shaban led the team in both games (50) and starts (44) while hitting .220 with team highs of 30 runs and 10 steals to go with six doubles and 26 walks. Before attending JMU, Shaban played for the Cosby High School Titans where he was a two-time All Dominion District Utility and Under Armour All-American. In his senior year, Shaban was named All-Central Region, All Metro, and Virginia High School Coaches Association State All Star game East Team MVP (with a two-run homer and a triple in a 9-2 victory).
